Watch Freepers Attempting to Handle Satire

I know, I’ve been making fun of Free Republic for a while now. I can’t help it, I’m like a kid with a new toy; it’s just so entertaining!

The latest thing that had me cracking up was somebody posting a non-at-all-funny but clearly satirical post about Obama allowing smoking in the White House. Obviously, it was hard to tell it was a joke, because of serious-sounding quotes such as these:

Obama noted that it would be important to repeal the ban, “especially for the Lincoln Bedroom.”

“It was important for the Lincoln Bedroom,” noted Obama. “Because in my administration, there’s gonna be a whole lot of smoking going on in there.”

“Not everyone agrees with this new policy,” added Michelle Obama. “LBJ did his grilling on the White House roof, and the smoke never bothered anyone. While I’m in da house though, Barack will be puffin’ away up there. So let me ask you this: Who’s your daddy, America? It’s Barack Obama and his wife. That’s who.”

Despite making it nice and obvious, the Freepers assume it’s serious. I guess they think that black people really talk that way all the time? Take these comments in response to that post, for example:

YUCK !!! The carpets, drapes and upholstery will soak up that smell and quickly go stale … it’ll smell like a wet ashtray in no time.

Obama was praised as the ‘healthy’ candidate of the two. Yeah right. Addicted to nicotine is healthy?

“Who’s your daddy, America?”

Can you hear that “Movin’ on up…..” tune in the background?

Seriously, they must really think black people say stuff like this conversationally all the time, even First Lady-elects.

Nice.

The only good that can come from his presidency is a rollback of anti-smoker madness. A pretty thin silver lining but that’s all we got.

Way to pin your hopes on an obviously made up piece of satire. And I’m not just talking about Sarah Palin.

doesn’t this go against everything the libs stand for as the tar and feather the cig. industry. This is very strange if you ask me.

It’s almost like… it’s somehow… not real? Egads.
