NaNoWriMo For Scripts

Ok, apparently April is Script Frenzy month. It’s like NaNoWriMo (even put on by the same people, from the mythical Office of Letters and Light) but for screenplays, teleplays, scripts, plays, etc. Anything that counts as a script.

Instead of having to write 50,000 words in a month, you just have to write a 100 page script in a month. Much easier. Not only is there no Thanksgiving to interrupt your month of writing, but it’s significantly less writing. A properly formatted 100-page script, by my estimation, should be around 20,000 words. If you manage to squeeze in tons of dialogue and very little action, you could get away with far fewer words.

Fewer words means easier to squeeze out in a month. Hooray for easy! Especially after I failed at NaNoWriMo yet again.

So, sure, it’s already April 2nd and I haven’t started writing any script yet. But this should be easy, right? I came up with a crappy idea for my script on March 31st, it just needs a little more thought to figure out a middle and ending. And then I just need to start writing it.

It’s suck, sure. It’s never going to get made as a real movie. But it should be fun to write, and then I can at least say that I’ve written a screenplay. Maybe November 2008 will be my year to write a complete crappy novel. I can only hope.
