Antonella Barba Web Popularity Before the Sex Tape Arrives

In case you don’t know who Antonella Barba is, after seeing her name all over the Technorati top 15 searches list, she’s an American Idol contestant this season. The first “real” episodes of the season — after the auditions and Hollywood — were last week, where she sang really (really) badly, but looked hot doing it, and so survived to this week. Or maybe it was those pranksters at Vote For the Worst who made her one of the top vote-getters of the night (according to DialIdol), since they have her and Sundance Head as their picks for worst singers at the moment. Good picks!

Anyway, according to Technorati, her peak popularity in blogs was at 150 posts mentioning her per day last week. I’m not going to go and read them and see if they’re all “WTF? Why is she still around” or “OMG she’s so cute I’m glad she made it” or what. That’s not my thing.

But then things got interesting. Last week a few risque photos surfaced, including her sitting on a toilet with a weird expression on her face, and some pictures of her topless but covering her boobs up with her hands (and some posing with some other topless friends). Nothing too revealing. The smart people in the audience predicted that this was just the beginning, though, and they were right.

Now we have what seems like new Antonella Barba pictures every single day, and many of them do have some nudity. Nothing too revealing, but enough nipples from see-through wet shirts or lace tops that I can’t imagine her sticking around much longer. Does everyone remember Frenchie Davis? She was kicked off for much more innocent and less revealing photos, and was a much better singer than Antonella. I know, that’s not saying much…

The interesting thing is to look at Antonella’s blog popularity the past few days, after the actual episodes. She’s currently at 450 posts per day according to Technorati, and it doesn’t look like it’s slowing down. So even with the insane popularity of American Idol, good old sex is still several times more popular. At least, when you combine the two of them, you have something that might be an unstoppable juggernaut of lonely Internet geeks posting and searching and blogging and downloading and, well, doing other things.

And now there are rumors that an Antonella Barba sex tape is around, and the owner is just waiting to see how far she gets on the show before releasing it. I’d hurry up if I were you, I wouldn’t count on Vote for the Worst leaving her to stick around too much longer. And if they don’t kick her off for these photos, they’re hypocrites, based on them kicking off Frenchie.

So let’s have that sex tape and be done with it. She’s gotten more than her fair share of 15 minutes of fame, and she doesn’t deserve much more, no matter how hot she is. Let’s finish this up.
