Who the Hell’s Voting for Kevin Covais? Oh. They Are.

I think I probably wondered out loud (ok, on my screen, whatever) who could possibly be voting for Kevin Covais (a.k.a The Blinking Fetus, a.k.a Chicken Little). And the answer is, naturally, votefortheworst.com. I don’t know how I’ve watched three whole seasons of American Idol and never heard about these people before, but this is awesome.

If you haven’t figured out the plan from the domain name, they organize votes for the worst contestant on the show. If the producers can make fun of all the crappy singers during the audition weeks, and then let some crappy ones through to this stage to keep the ratings up and provide cannon fodder for the chosen ones, why not support the crappy singers and try to get them to win? If they can get enough traction and really get a terrible singer through to win, well, the producers would have to rethink how they try to play the public, wouldn’t they?

During the semifinals, they were voting for Kevin and Kellie Pickler, naturally enough. It looks like they had a tough choice once the tribes merged, but they’ve decided to concentrate their votes on Kevin, at least for now.

After debating which of our two champions to back, we have decided that Kevin Covais should be the one and only VFTW pick. While Kellie Pickler is still an awful, tone deaf fake, it would be foolish to split our votes at this point. It’s great that the same people who said we have no impact on the votes are now blaming us for Kevin’s prolonged stay. We also think it would be hysterical for Kevin to go on tour with the Idols, so he’s our man for now. If for any reason Kevin is kicked out of the competition, we will then vote for Kellie (she’s still terrible), so she’s not off the VFTW radar. But we think we owe it to Kevin to help him first since he has way fewer fans than Kellie and people are mad at him for outlasting Gedeon (seriously people, don’t lie to yourselves, none of you actually voted for Gedeon so it’s your fault).

Ok. This has restored some of my faith in America. I’ll just pretend that every person voting for a contestant who shouldn’t have been in the top 24 is really a votefortheworst.com supporter. Sure, I may be deluding myself, but it’s a lot less depressing than the alternative.
